Revisiting the Playmakers 05 Draft 1st round:

I thought I would do something new, I will be revisiting last years draft. I figured since we have a new owner, he could see what happened and how he got the team he got. Ricky Williams Does It Again, "DRUGS"...

Ricky Williams has done it again. According to numerous sources, including KDVR-TV in Denver and the Miami Herald, the Dolphins embattled running back has violated the NFL's substance abuse policy for a fourth time and faces a one year suspension. It is not clear whether the violation is a result of a missed test or a positive test for a banned substance. "There is an appeal process so you can't write him off right away," Williams' agent Drew Rosenhaus told Knight Ridder Newspapers. However, Rosenhaus conceded that if Williams loses the appeal, the ramifications are obvious, adding: "It's very unlikely he would ever play again or anyone would take a chance on him again.".

No one should be shocked by this news, least of all fantasy owners who likely didn't invest in Williams beyond the 2005 season in keeper leagues. As Rosenhaus said you can officially stick a fork in Ricky's career. Even if he somehow wins his appeal, the cloud of suspicion is back for good; and if the suspension sticks, he will be 30 years old and will have missed two of the last three seasons when he is eligible to play again. The Dolphins were probably going to deal Williams this offseason many reports suggested the Broncos were serious suitors but they wouldn't have received much more than a conditional late-round pick for him even before this news broke. The most obvious fallout from a fantasy perspective of this news is that the value of Ronnie Brown, who had to split carries with Williams this past season, will surge now that Miami ground machine is no longer a committee.

I feel bad for Will Work for Points, our new owner, who will take over the Terror Squad this season. We have been watching Ricky Williams, and if he went to Denver, he would have become a keeper. Now Ricky is just a dead carcass for the vultures. Will Work for Points has Ronnie Brown on his roster, who might now be a good keeper with Ricky out of football.

Fantasy QB's Who Might Be Playing On A New Team This Season....

More fantasy football breaking news as the NFL closes in on March 3, FREE AGENCY PERIOD. The Chargers will not consider designating quarterback Drew Brees the team's franchise player for a second straight offseason, meaning Brees will become a free agent March 3 unless he agrees to a new contract. Placing either their transition or franchise tag on Brees again this year would guarantee him a $9.7 million salary for 2006, and the team is unwilling to pay that amount, ESPN reported Saturday. Brees would be one of the most sought-after quarterbacks on the free agent market if the Chargers are unable to re-sign him in the next two weeks. Brees, 27, has thrown for 51 touchdowns the past two seasons and has been an integral part of one of the NFL's most explosive offenses. If he were to sign elsewhere as a free agent, the Chargers would rely on former first-round pick Philip Rivers at quarterback. This is huge for Boston Beer Works, who owns Drew Brees. We already know that his keeper will be LaDainian Tomlinson. So if Brees signs with the Chargers or another team, like Miami (Who Needs a QB), will he franchise Brees as his second keeper.

Another QB in question! It Seems that Air McNair's future is uncertain. Titans general manager Floyd Reese said Friday he expects the team's contract negotiations with quarterback Steve McNair to be a long, drawn out process. "This is not going to happen in the next day or two or week or two," Reese told the Associated Press. "It's going to take time. We'll continue to talk on a daily, weekly basis and see if we can't make progress."

McNair's current contract gives the Titans the option of picking up a three-year extension at the cost of $50 million which would extend the deal through 2009. Reese has already said the Titans are willing to discuss a new contract for McNair, but that paying the $50 million will not happen. If these negotiations break down, McNair could potentially wind up playing for another team next season. The Titans hold the No. 3 overall pick in April's NFL Draft and would likely have a shot at either Matt Leinart or Vince Young. Some say McNair is done, and over the hill. However, if he was to find his way to a decent team with a good offensive line and good receivers, like Miami, (Who needs a QB), He just might be a nice pickup for a fantasy QB.

Free Agency Period May Be Pushed Back Till April.

Oh Boy a change in plans already. As most of us know and are looking forward March 3, 2006, which is known as Free Agency Period in the NFL. However, someone forgot to tell the NFL.
With the NFL and the players' association still unable to agree on terms for an extension to the collective bargaining agreement, the league may move back the start of the free agency period. According to several published reports, the date would be moved back from March 3 to April 1 in hopes that an agreement could be reached. The later date may be enough for the two sides to agree on a new CBA, but it would certainly make for a busy April for personnel departments, who would have three weeks to woo and sign free agents before the draft.

Man, just when we are half way through February, and looking forward to March, the NFL changes everything. However, if the CBA could be reached, it would be worth it.

Pennington and Warner Offered New Contracts...

Well ladies, it seems that the fantasy news is picking up. Here is a look at the important dates coming up in the NFL:

*February 23 Issue/Event: Beginning of waiver system/franchise tag period ends
*February 22-28 Issue/Event: NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis
*March 2 Issue/Event: Contract expiration date
*March 3 Issue/Event: Free Agency begins
*March 20 Issue/Event: Offseason programs begin
*March 26-30 Issue/Event: NFL Annual Meeting
*April 29-30 Issue/Event: The NFL Draft in New York

Here is what is making headlines this week.

The New York Daily News reports that the Jets have approached Pennington about taking an $8 million pay cut. No word yet as to whether Pennington will agree to such a dramatic decrease in pay. He is scheduled to earn a $3 million roster bonus next month. Pennington would be able to recoup the lost money by reaching several incentive bonuses. Of course, he would have to stay healthy for an entire season to reach those incentives, which is hardly a lock given that he has had two shoulder surgeries over the last two seasons.

While the Jets decide whether or not to cut quarterback Chad Pennington and the $9 million he is due to earn in 2006, at least two of Pennington's teammates would rather not have him back. "I think we should release him; he's too injury-prone," an unidentified player told the New York Post on Thursday. "He's like an egg back there," another player said. "I mean, look at the ways he's gotten hurt. He hasn't even been hit that hard. The injuries have come from awkward hits and falls. I think we should just cut him."

The Cardinals signed quarterback Kurt Warner to a three-year contract on Tuesday, according to the team's website. Financial terms were not disclosed. Warner had 2,713 yards and 11 touchdowns in 10 starts for Arizona in 2005. Warner would have been a free agent next month if the two sides didn't agree on a deal. His presence is good news for the fantasy value of both Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald, who may have had to adjust to another new quarterback if Warner had left. This signing makes it very unlikely that Josh McCown will be a Cardinal next season. This is good fantasy news for us owners. Warner had a decent year last year until he was injured, now another year in this system and throwing to Boldin/Fitzgerald, Warner might just become the fantasy QB he was in St. Louis.

Here is a photo for N.Y. Knights. Do see what hat is on the head of your boy? Lets just see if you respond to this picture.

Not fantasy news, but you all know how much I love the Bucs. So I had to put this picture of my boy derrick Brooks, who was the Pro Bowl MVP.

Fantasy News Update

Well, football season is all but over, after this weeks Pro-Bowl, we sit back and wait for March 1st, to see what free agency brings. There still is not much action on this site, but I will keep it going. Here is this weeks free agency questions:

It appears as if Edgerrin James is out in Indianapolis. Where will he go and will he be a fantasy stud? So now the question is does Detroit Latin Stars keep him as either a keeper or a franchise player?

Another running back dilemma: Ricky Williams is a hot subject as of late. The question is will he be in a Dolphins uniform this up coming season or will he be traded. All reports look as if the Denver Broncos want him. If Denver takes T.O. they will not take Ricky Williams. If they pass on T.O. Ricky Williams will go to Denver. If this happens watch out, because Will Work for Points might have just inherited one of the greatest running backs in the game. With Denver's history at running back, Ricky will be unstoppable. However, if he stays in Miami he will be sharing time with Ronnie Brown.

Well not real big fantasy news, unless you are Boston Beer Works. It seems that WR, Joe Jurevicius would like to stay in Seattle, however the Patroits have made an offer to Joe for him to be their number 2 receiver. As a Bucs fan, I know what Joe brings to the table. If N.Y. Knights would be honest, he too would tell you what Joe brings since he use to be a NY Giants. Anyway not a 1st round pick or a keeper, but something to think about in the 2-3 rds.

Well here is another fantasy running back stud: Jamel Lewis. It looks as if Jamel Lewis is out in Baltimore. If so this will help his fantasy value. He has been the star on a offense that sucks, and as of lately teams have kept him down. Give this guy a new team with a QB and a offensive plan, and this guy will reemerge as a fantasy football keeper. The only question is will Gang Green keep him?

Oh Boy what can I say about my fantasy football nightmare. Cutthroat Pirates own T.O. and man did it payoff early. I started out like a fantasy football GOD. But then all hell broke loose. T.O. is now getting ready to play for his 3rd team. This guy is no doubt a fantasy football Stud, however he is also the fantasy football nightmare. There are several reports out there that Denver wants him. If Denver takes T.O. look for Ashley Lelie to be traded and right now it looks as if the 49ers want Lelie. Do not get to excited, Denver may choose to take Ricky Williams and pass on T.O., which would leave T.O. going to either the Bucs or the Dolphins. So the real question is will Cutthroat franchise T.O. We all know if he goes to Tampa that Cutthroat will keep him and Cadillac.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the Chargers have offered QB Drew Brees a contract extension. "I have no idea where it goes from here," Chargers GM A.J. Smith said. Brees had offseason shoulder surgery and could be a candidate for a franchise or transition tag if he doesn't agree to a new deal with the Bolts.Analysis: The Chargers want to keep Brees and trade Philip Rivers. Brees' shoulder is definitely cause for concern, but if he stays as the Chargers' starter, he should be a fine No. 1 QB option in 2006. I

The Texans gave QB David Carr an $8 million bonus, as per his contract, effectively suggesting that he will stay with the organization for at least the next season. The move indicates that Carr will remain Houston's quarterback of the future and that RB Reggie Bush will be their selection with the top pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. Carr is at best a No. 2 Fantasy quarterback.

Domanick Davis, who in my opinion is not the problem in Texas, but it seems now with Carr's new deal that the Texans will take Reggie Bush leaving Davis in the cold. If Davis is traded then he will be fine as a Fantasy Running Back, but if they keep him his fantasy days are over.

I saved the best for last, and I wanted to keep the NY Knights waiting. It seems that the MVP's future is uncertain. It seems that Alexander wants to return to Seattle, but he has publicly said he would play for Carolina, who we all know needs a running back. Either way his fantasy value stay sky high. The only thing I hate besides not having him on my team is that if he goes to Carolina, they just got a lot better and they are already a good team. The Buccaneers do not need this to happen. Steve Smith and Shaun Alexander on the same team OUCH who could stop them. I hate to say it but nobody.
